Birthday Calendar

I have been looking for away to display the students birthday, without having to make another BB. I saw this idea in a kindergarten class, I'll try to get a picture.

You take the months of the year from your calendar and display them across the top of the BB that you use for your calendar area. Then underneath of each month you use a cutout of something birthdayish and write the students name and birthday on each. Each month when you change your calendar, to reflect the appropriate month, you also add those cutouts to the body of the calendar to remind everyone of the birthdays.

Alphabet Book

Below are the instructions for creating an Alphabet Book. This is a great tool for young students that are just learning they letters.

First, Take a sheet of construction paper and fold it in half, hot dog style. (Long ways, hamburger style is )

Next, you fold the corners in, like a paper airplane.

Then, fold the nose of the airplane over so that the tip touches the edge of the opposite side of the paper.

Now, fold in half down the center on the airplane nose. As you can see, each side has a pocket.

Next, hole punch the page on the unfolded side of the paper.

Finally, glue or write your letter on the pocket. You now have one complete page of your alphabet book.

Once all of your pages are complete use yarn or string to tie them together. Don't forget to make a cover.

Now the pockets are ready to be filled with pictures of items that start with the corresponding letter. A great way to do this is, each day work with your child on a certain letter. Find pictures to fill the pocket, then quiz them on the times and letter.

Computer Room Bulletin Board

I saw this at a school I was subbing at. They used the small square Styrofoam take out containers as the "keys." Then printed each letter/symbols on the keyboard and glued them on the containers, it created the cutest wall keyboard.

Starting School

I am starting my career as a teacher tomorrow!! I am so excited. I know I will have a ton of ideas that I see or create and I wanted a way to keep track of them. I created this blog to do just that. I will also be adding many of the ideas that I got from student teaching and subbing. Wish me luck!!
